Battle Royale should be a gift from the PlayStation gods. Kato’s, Nathan Drake, Big daddy, Sly Cooper, Sac boy, Sweet Tooth, and more all come together on this sought after title. However, it’s not quite the same. From the moment you pop in the disc you’re greeted with a cool sounding dubstep theme followed by intros of every PlayStation character. Which builds up the anticipation to possibly the best PlayStation game ever. However, the anticipation gets spoiled after the intro. PlayStation All Stars was not the white knight PlayStation fans with free PSN codes were looking for. So let’s dig in to see where they went wrong. Let’s start off with the controls. It feels quite awkward to play with the characters. The lack of fluidity kind hindered the experience. You’ll find that most of the heavy hitting characters lack a bit of punch. Sweet tooth feels quite aloof. Not at all awesome and gruesome as portrayed in Twisted Metal. Even his blade, which should be a choice weapon, wasn’t the most easily used weapon.

Now onto the real reason why this game just doesn’t work. There is just no satisfaction to killing/defeating a character.

The only way to kill a player is to build up points to level up. Each hit registers as a point. After several hits and xp gained you head to level 1, 2, and 3. Now you finally leveled up and you choose to use it. A simple hit of the R2 and it’s time to cause rampage. Now level 1 generally allows only for one death, Level 2 allows for a death of 1 to 3 players, and level 3 allows for a death of 1 to 4 deaths. Which is incredibly dissatisfying. Sometimes you can just respawn and bam! You’re dead again. It doesn’t really allow for a fair fight. As well as it really doesn’t feel satisfying when you kill someone. It just seems overall too easy.

With all that said, the potential fun falls short compared to its rival Super Smash Bros. What made Super Smash Bros. so much fun with free PSN codes is that you were able to play your favorite Nintendo characters in a totally new setting. Each player resembled the character perfectly with each move used to their special. Which you just don’t feel in PlayStation with free PSN codesAll Stars Battle Royale. Also Super Smash Bros. had a complete fluidity with each and every characters.
